Watania’s central marketing & sales office is in Riyadh. Most of Watania’s top grade fruits & vegetables are marketed through a chain of high-class “showrooms” where discerning customers are assured of excellent service from well-trained sales staff. Products available in the showrooms include ostrich meat, sheep meat, sheep dairy products, organic olive oil, organic fruits & vegetables, honey and jam. Watania’s vegetables are also available in important UK supermarkets, particularly the Waitrose supermarket chain. In 1999, Watania made the strategic decision to export to markets all over the world, initially targeting wholesale markets and progressing to sophisticated consumer markets, especially the UK supermarket multiples. Supplying UK supermarket multiples wasn’t easy, and required that Watania upgrade not just its facilities to International standards, but also to add new protocols on worker welfare and rights to comply with ILO (International labour Organisation) requirements. The result is newly upgraded greenhouses, a pack house with modern facilities and equipment, policies on worker welfare and rights, and policies on environmental protection and wildlife conservation. However, Watania is not content to just achieve the minimum standards, and is now focusing on achieving “EuropGap” certification in 2003, which would recognize Watania as one of the top suppliers of organic products (or any other food products) in the world. Watania has won praise from UK supermarket multiples for the quality of its vegetables and its commitment to excellence in the processes involved in production of all its products. In the Gulf countries, Watania products are currently available in Kuwait, and there are plans to expand distribution to U.A.E., Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan.
