Water Conservation by SCADA system:
Decreasing wasted water and increasing the efficiency of its use, especially for agricultural purposes, is considered to be the most important duty to preserve water.
Al-Watania agricultural company has made every endeavor to achieve this goal by applying the latest in world technology concerning this field. A new system has been applied, known as SCADA(Remote Supervision, Control and Analyzing Data).
This system has Cost about (SR 12) million and is useful in controlling the irrigation system in the whole project from a central control room, and gives the possibility of operating and turning off machinery quickly as possible, therefore saving time, tools and labour in addition to preserving water. The company has cooperated with global companies which are specialized in this field, such as (Motorola) company and Saudi universities like King Fahad University for Petroleum and Minerals, to design a perfectly balanced irrigation system and tie it with a mechanical irrigation program which calculates the water needs for the crops by analyzing available data from the weather station in the project. This is connected with the system and the given weather is input to the database. About each axis such as the type of soil, crop, root depths, growing stages, and moisture around each axis. The program, which has been prepared by King Fahad University, continuously calculating the quantity of water needed to be added to each axis, then, the axis and pumps are activated mechanically and without any interference from the system operator.
